Electric / Acoustic Guitar: jazz, rock, pop
Shim has played guitar for over twenty years, and has been teaching and performing in the Atlanta area for over fifteen. He earned a Bachelor’s degree in Music and Jazz Guitar Performance from Georgia State University, and while studying there, performed with the GSU Jazz Band as well as other ensembles such as the GSU Master’s Singers Choir where he sang as a baritone. Along the way, Shim has played with bands with musical styles ranging from rock and funk, to country and jazz, as well as working as a studio musician for various recording artists.
In addition to playing the guitar, he is passionate about music production, composition, theory, and improvisation, and he brings this enthusiasm into every lesson!
Shim’s teaching philosophy centers on finding joy in the guitar and refining skills through the student’s individual interests, creating a supportive environment where they can thrive and develop both technically and artistically. He understands that every student has different needs, and offers tailored lessons that cater to individual learning styles and goals. He is dedicated to helping students of all levels master their instrument and explore their musical passions.
